Christ Light:  John Is Born
Memory Work: Galatians 4:4

So far everyone is doing very well.  There is a lot to remember and everyone is improving everyday!

Just Clarifying a few things:  We are learning too! :)

The Christ Light Sheet with the story on it should be returned the next day.  Many times there are activities on the back that we discuss or I like to see.  I will put a sticker on it and return the next day.

The Green Memory Treasure books can stay home.  Find a safe place for it.  I do not think they will last if they bring it back and forth each day.  I will always circle the memory work to do on the back of the Christ Light sheet and try to put it on the blog.  You can also see which memory work is due because it is listed by story in the Green Memory Treasure Book.

Shoe tying:  As part of them being responsible and independent in First Grade we expect that they can tie their shoes by now or at least be pretty close.   This is not something we teach at school.  This is something to be taught at home.  We will  help them somewhat, but we really push them to do it themselves.  We change shoes several times a day so they really need to be able to tie and untie all of their shoes.  They are really sad when they can't get it right and it takes forever, so please work with them to master this skill.  If they are not ready to be mostly independent then do not send them with tie shoes yet, but keep working on it at home.  Time them to see if they can improve on their time.  I even told them to practice by tying up their parents for fun.  Tying knots is a skill they often need in art as well.  They get very frustrated if they can't do it well.  Keep working on it.

Math 2B:  The B side of the Math page is for you to do at home.  Please help them read it even if they think they can do it by themselves.  The directions are often very similar as on the first page, but often have a few differences that a young reader may not catch.   Also, It is good to have crayons and pencils at home to do their homework.  I would prefer they did not use pens or markers.

Lunch:  The kids are doing a great job opening their food and eating independently.  I am very proud of them for just the 2nd day.  Please make sure you practice new containers with them and also pack a spoon or fork if they need it.  It is also a good idea to always pack a napkin to wipe their faces or clean up a spill.  I am also really loving how healthy their snacks are.  It is good to discuss that at home.   Have them know which is the healthy snack for snack time.  Which order would be a good order to eat their food in.  They are really figuring this out already, but sometimes it is tricky and sometimes it doesn't matter.
